Ontario's Maple Grove Labradoodles

Training

Here at OMG Australian Labradoodles we believe in keeping current with the most up to date research on both training techniques and medical health practices. We do not support outdated training methods that include the use of corrections for unwanted behaviors. A correction can be any of the following: saying the word “NO” (or stop or whatever) in a stern voice, any aversive sound interrupter (like a coin can, or ultrasonic sound emitter or a tshsh sound), a finger poke, a leash snap, a slip leash or collar(any collar or leash that tightens with pressure) or any number of other actions that produce something unpleasant enough to stop the unwanted behavior. Most trainers out there still use these methods even though it is alongside giving treats/rewards for desired behaviors. Other outdated theories are :”don’t let you pet win at tug of war”,”don’t let you pet on the bed or sofa”, never let your pet walk through a doorway ahead of you”. These are all based on outdated theories of dominance and pack rank. Please read the following links that show what the new research says and links that explain what the new theories are and the techniques used. The 3 animal behaviorists below all have several good books out there. They may or may not be in stores so you may need to order them online in order to read them before your puppy comes home.
